SBL Round 13: Top-ranked Al Hilal win another game

SBL top team - Al Hilal (13-3) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Al Salam (4-9) in Al-Awamiyah 100-72. Al Hilal dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Al Salam's 44. They outrebounded Al Salam 51-36 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Hilal looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Antwan Scott (185-92, college: Colorado St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists. International center Mohammed Alsuwailem (211-98) contributed with 29 points and 13 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Al Hilal's coach Stratos Koukoulekidis felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Nick Stover (198-93, college: USA) answered with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for Al Salam. Al Hilal have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-3 record. Al Salam lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with nine games lost.
Bottom-ranked Abha is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their 13th consecutive match to seventh ranked Al Ansar (7-6) 81-64. American-Armenian center Todd OBrien (211-89, college: UAB) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Sami Bzai chipped in 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side Hesham Al Shareef responded with 31 points and 7 rebounds. Al Ansar moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Al Wehda and Al Fateh. Abha lost their thirteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 13 games lost.
The game in Jeddah was also quite interesting. Third ranked Ohod (11-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Al Ahly (4-6). Ohod managed to secure a 7-point victory 81-74 on Monday. Shane Rector nailed 40 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Steve Taylor Jr. came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 23 rebounds for Al Ahly in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Ohod. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Nasr. Al Ahly lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with six games lost.

Other games in round 13 were not that significant. Al Fateh was beaten by Al Ittihad on the road 102-85. Duba Club won against Al Nahda on its own court 76-70. Al Wehda was outscored by Al Nasr in Riyadh 98-66.
The most impressive performance of 13th round was 31 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists by Chris Johnson of Al Nasr.

Al Ittihad - Al Fateh 102-85

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Al Ittihad (10-3) beat 6th ranked Al Fateh (7-6) in Jeddah 102-85 on Monday. Al Ittihad looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Al Fateh's players. The former international Mathna Almarwani (186-92) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side and Tunisian point guard Omar Abada (189-93) accounted for 23 points and 15 assists. Four Al Ittihad players scored in double figures. Algerian forward Mohamed Harat (198-90) came up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds and Nigerian-American guard Michael Efevberha (195-84, college: CSUN) added 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds respectively for Al Fateh in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Al Ittihad. They maintain fourth place with 10-3 record. Al Fateh at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Al Ansar and Al Wehda.

Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Ohod. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Nasr. Al Ahly lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with six games lost.

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 10th ranked Al Nahda (2-11) lost to eleventh ranked Duba Club (2-11) in Tabuk 70-76 on Monday. Duba Club outrebounded Al Nahda 42-21 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Egyptian center Ahmed Ismail (216-95, college: IUPUI) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points, 21 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Syrian forward Wael Jlilaty (199-90) accounted for 18 points and 9 rebounds. Saad Alsubaie came up with 30 points and 5 rebounds and Turki Alsubaie added 9 points respectively for Al Nahda in the defeat. Duba Club moved-up to tenth place, which they share with defeated Al Nahda. Al Nahda lost their third game in a row.

Rather predictable result when second ranked Al Nasr (11-2) rolled over 5th ranked Al Wehda (7-6) in Riyadh 98-66 on Monday. Al Nasr had a 38-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American power forward Chris Johnson (210-85, college: LSU) nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and the former international guard Khalid Abdel-Gabar (188-90, college: Windsor) accounted for 14 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Five Al Nasr players scored in double figures. The former international center Mohammed AlMarwani (206-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and American-Bahrain Wayne Chism (206-87, college: Tennessee) added 20 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Al Wehda in the defeat. Defending champion maintains second place with 11-2 record having five points less than leader Al Hilal, which they share with Ohod. Al Wehda at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Al Ansar and Al Fateh.
